Earlier this year, we launched our new campaign ‘Help us to end loneliness with messages of kindness’. As part of Mental Health Awareness Week in May, we invited people to write their own message of kindness to be included in our gift bags this winter.

After a fantastic response, receiving so many heart warming messages, including a message from the Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire Robert Voss, we are so excited to see these messages now reaching older people who are feeling lonely and isolated, creating a connection and making a huge difference to their lives.

The messages were printed in partnership with our friends at Metro Commercial Printing Ltd. who very kindly supported this project enabling us to include them in every gift bag we pack.

We were hugely appreciative of their kindness and our continuing partnership. Andrew O’Brien, Managing Director commented ‘We have partnered with Small Acts of Kindness since they began and the messages of kindness are one of the really personal touches they add. This puts them a step above where expectations usually are. When they mentioned these to me it was the least we could do.”

Some of the messages we received :

A big hello to whomever reads this message. I hope that your day has been pleasant, with some sunshine on your face and warmth in your heart. Please know that I am thinking of you with all my best wishes, from one stranger to another, may we be connected with kindness and good thoughts. Take care of yourself x

I hope this gift helps keep you cosy this winter, and helps you know you are loved and appreciated. My favourite way to get cosy in winter is with a hot chocolate and a biscuit or several! x

Sending you warm wishes and hope this will remind you how special you are and how important you are in our community. x

Connecting people with their community and increasing opportunities for social contact is fundamental to our activities as we aim to tackle the epidemic of loneliness, which often accompanies the problems of keeping warm in winter.

A huge thank you to everyone who sent a message!
