It’s been a really exciting week, as we welcomed our volunteers to begin packing for this coming winter.

We were joined by familiar faces as well as families and young people to help put together hot drink packs.  We have been really touched to see so many enthusiastic and hard working children come along and give their time to help others.

The summer holidays gave us the ideal opportunity to start preparing for our main packing period which will begin in September.  Our hot drink packs comprise 2 sachets of hot chocolate, 5 individually wrapped tea bags and 5 sachets of coffee, which then get included in our Warm in Winter gift bags. Having these ready means that we can smoothly and efficiently pack our gift bags.

It is a great activity for families and friends to do together and it has been wonderful to see the kindness and generosity of our volunteers as we once again asked for their time and help.

This year, we are expecting an increase in demand of our bags as the cost of living crisis takes hold and the difficulties facing older people trying to keep warm in their homes becomes a reality.

We were delighted to welcome Dean Russell MP to one of the sessions. Speaking after the visit Dean said, 'Small Acts of Kindness was the first place I visited after I was elected in 2019 and I continue to be grateful for the the exceptional work that they do on a daily basis. Under the stewardship of founder Lynne Misner, the charity has gone from strength to strength and has supported thousands of people. Being a volunteer for the charity is very rewarding. If you do have an hour a month to spare, please contact them. They would be delighted to hear from you and any time that you could donate would be hugely appreciated by those receiving the bags.’

As we begin to invite our volunteer family to help package information packs and gift bags, we are reminded of the endless small acts of kindness that they carry out to help those in need and the enjoyment that we all experience working together.
